Best Books of 2019

Here they are! My favorite books of 2019. In 2018, there was one piece of nonfiction on my list. In 2017, there were none. This year, there are six. My reading tastes have changed as the world around me has changed. I’m grateful for the books that have helped me continue to figure out my voice. Here’s to celebrating even more of those in 2020.

So, without further ado, recommendations by mood below.

  • For the memoir that is impossibly smart, incredibly necessary, & intensely personal: In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado
  • For the story that is just so right now: Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
  • For the novel with the twist: Trust Exercise by Susan Choi
  • For the memoir that will have your jaw on the ground for the entire story: Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur
  • For the part of you that’s always wondered what its like to date a tortured artist: Widow Basquiat by Jennifer Clement
  • For the reread you didn’t know you needed: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • For the rockstar in you: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • For the brain candy: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
  • For the New York novel: Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner
  • For when you just want to have a conversation: Good Talk by Mira Jacob
  • For our current history as you’ve never experienced it before: The Only Plane in the Sky by Garrett M. Graff
  • For when love is just freaking hard: Normal People by Sally Rooney
  • For the journalist who dared to go there: Three Women by Lisa Taddeo

I don’t read much adult fiction, but this looks like a great stack of books! I’m looking forward to reading In The Dream House, I recently added it to my TBR! One of my favorite reads of 2019 was The Tea Dragon Festival! Happy 2020 😄❤
