When Katie Met Cassidy, one of the most fun rom-com reads of the summer, is a New York novel through and through. Here is a guide to the real NYC spots visited in When Katie Met Cassidy. Also, have no fear! No spoilers here.
Jog through Hudson River Park – Katie and Cassidy start in the West Village and run all the way down to Battery Park. This is one of my favorite parts of NYC – perfect for a game of mini golf, a fun dinner, or a beautiful run. The city skyline is on one side and the breeze comes in off the river on the other. And the sunsets in the summer cannot be beat.
Salinas – this Chelsea restaurant is Katie’s date night spot and with good reason. It’s cozy and dark and intimate, with a pretty glass roof garden. Take someone special here to treat them to a night of Spanish food and wine.
The High Line – this is easily one of the best spaces in NYC. A public park created on top of an abandoned train track, it’s absolutely necessary for everyone to walk down this space whenever they’re in NYC. Start at 34th Street and walk all the way down to the West Village.
Babeland – the store where Katie goes to buy her book (and her first vibrator) does exist and actually has three locations in NYC: two in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.
The Metropolitan Opera – Lincoln Center is one of my favorite places in NYC and the Met is a large part of that. This space is stunning and the level of production is always impressive. And the opera does not have to be expensive! Click these links to learn how you can purchase student tickets or $25 same day rush tickets. Don’t have time for an opera? Make sure you come by Lincoln Center with a book and a coffee and just take a moment to take it all in.
The Metropolitan Bar – Camille Perri said that the Met is based on a number of bars, many in Manhattan that are sadly no longer open. Don’t lose all hope! You can still visit one of Perri’s sources of inspiration: The Metropolitan in Williamsburg.
Dig Inn – Cassidy brings home Dig Inn as an easy dinner one night and that’s how I knew she was a girl after my own heart. Dig Inn is my favorite fast casual spot in NYC – it’s farm-sourced food with a heavy emphasis on veggies that are both delicious and in-season. I could eat there for every meal and be the happiest version of myself.
