About Me

Hi! I’m Morgan Hoit, the bookworm behind nycbookgirl. Welcome to my corner of the internet!

As you can probably tell, I love to read. A lot. I graduated from Duke University with degrees in English and Theater Studies.  I now live in NYC and work in the publishing world as the Marketing Manager of Avid Reader Press. Avid is an imprint of Simon & Schuster; my job focuses on digital marketing (I’m the voice behind all of our social media) and on title marketing.  When I’m not at work, I can most likely be found hanging out with my friends, at soulcycle, drinking iced coffee, walking through the city, or (most importantly) reading.

I started nycbookgirl in June of 2017 as a way to share my love of reading, my city, and a bit of my life with an online community of bookworms. It’s grown from that into so much more! I’ve made friends I never would have met, read books I never would have found, and discovered parts of the city I’d never known existed.

I’m extremely stubborn, passionate, and driven. I can’t work without my hair pulled back, I love all things sloth and unicorn related, and if I could live off of a diet of cheese and wine, I probably would. My music library is a happy mix of the greats: Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Demi Lovato, to name a few. I get easily addicted to games and have been known to be highly competitive.

I read a bit of everything. If I had to narrow that down, I’d say it’s mostly fiction, short stories, essay collections, and memoirs. I pick up books not because of the plot described in their synopsis but because of how other readers say the book made them feel.

I love my friends and family. One of the things I love most about myself is my propensity for showing up – when it’s important, I’m there. I’m mom to a furry baby named Cleo. I love living in NYC and will maybe never leave this crazy, imperfect city.

If you want to know more about me…

I can never choose a favorite, but the three books I’m recommending at this moment are:
  1. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
  2. The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deeshaw Philyaw
  3. Infinite Country by Patricia Engel.

I love music almost as much as I love books. Click here for my latest playlist.
